Well, I'm not going to do this. I don't feel I did anything important enough regardless of the half dozen medals I got, none have Vs and none were earned in a hostile area. But I figured some of you guys should. You earned it, and it's not like you would be bragging, you're not. Maybe they'll help educate some people about those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on this Memorial Day. People may ask you questions, especially children, and you'll have your chance to tell your story and change things. Well, here is what I'm talking about:

Couldn't have said it better... [06 Apr 2007|07:08pm]
[ mood | annoyed ]

You know, I've been thinking this exact same thing for the past few weeks but couldn't get my thoughts down in a concise manner. So here:

I can't say that I've ever been in that position, but I'm fairly sure that I wouldn't fold that quickly. And I'm really damned surprised that the Royal Marines caved like that. From what I've heard their basic training is tougher than USMC boot camp and that's saying a lot. I met a couple of the Commandos a while back and they knew their shit, I guess the Iranians happened to capture the 10%. I'm also tempted to wonder if the Iranians specifically targeted non-US troops because if they had come after us it probably would have started a war, and we most likely would have been massacred before being captured. I can't really fault them for surrenduring, US troops probably wouldn't have, but that must have been a tough decision. See here for details (I also want to know why the hell their helo support disappeared, if that hadn't have happened they wouldn't have been captured). But as for the "confessions" and TV broadcasts, that's inexcusable.

In other news, Mothers of America are continuing to ruin/weaken my beloved Corps.

New USMC tattoo regs:

Whose brilliant idea was this? Especially during a time of war, and when the Marine Corps is having a hard time making annual recruiting mission for the first few times in years!

My third hat was Force Recon and had full sleeves on both arms, are you telling me that one of the Corps elite isn't professional? Hell, it might be true that that shit effects promotion. He was only a SSgt and if I remember correctly he'd been in over 15 years because he had four stars on his good cookie. That's bullshit if you ask me. I'll never forget that fuckers mean eyed stair or his raspy voice. Men that can take nasty, sloppy American teenagers and turn them into spit shined Marines in 13 weeks shouldn't be berated for having body art.

I could go on and on about this, but I'll just add one more thing. I've seen comments about this to the effect of, "screw this shit, I'm getting out and reenlisting in the Army where I can get a big sign-on bonus too." Granted, this wouldn't be the only reason that Jarheads would leave the Corps for another branch, it's just a proverbial final straw. And keep in mind that one of the favorite hobbies of a Marine is to bitch about the Corps even though we love it and the majority of guys saying this will probably never leave. Ok, I've said enough for now.

Semper Fi,
keep your left foot forward!

Also, I found the following letter here:

A word from [Gunnery]Sergeant Krueger, USMC, to Speaker Pelosi:

How can you even think of pushing forward legislation to set a withdrawal date for US forces from Iraq? Do you know how much you embolden the insurgency here in Iraq? YOU ARE JEOPARDIZING THE LIVES OF US SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN WITH YOUR ACTIONS. You and your fellow Democrats are causing the Al Qaeda supported insurgency to use more catastrophic attacks against us and Iraqi forces. You will see more SVBIED’s with chlorine gas, more VBIED’s against civilians and security forces every time you and other Democrats open your mouths. You will have to live with yourself and try to sleep at night knowing all the defeatist propaganda you have spewed forth is nothing more than ammunition for Islamic extremist groups around the world and more US deaths. The ! unsuspecting people who support you know nothing of what goes on over here; you fill their heads with nonsense and talk of pullout to appease them. The only thing that will happen is the establishment of an extremist Islamic state where sharia law is the law of the land and no one is safe.

Sunni Moslems here are coming to our side and joining forces with the government to defeat Al Qaeda(AQI) here in Iraq, but they need our help and they need us to stay. I have spent the last 7 months(3rd tour) in Iraq. I have watched Iraqi citizens pick up weapons and form militias in areas to join forces with Iraqi police/Army. Common citizens who fight and die because we are standing next to them. Not cutting and running or talking of withdrawal. This started after the surge forces the President sent here arrived. We have lost Marines also and it hurts more than you will ever know but we have made a commitment to these people. And I for one will not abandon them and I have of a platoon of Marines who feel the same. I have no control over what happened in 2003 and why we invaded Iraq. That is another discussion, but we are here and they need our help to rid their country of these terrorists. Yes eventually we will leave but we need to do a phased withdrawal without a timeline. At least without a timeline that is published for the world to know. The citizens of Iraq need to see some solidarity in our government, Democrats and Republicans coming together and supporting our President in this war. There is a middle ground here for both parties, you all need to come together and work towards a solution. What we don’t need is more theatrics and clashes between the parties. AQI loves to see that it causes them to do more attacks and continue with the murder and intimidation campaign against Iraqi citizens.

Someone needs to step forward and bring the two parties together. Meet and talk about what you all can do and come to an agreement on the war. Like I said before we need a unified front to present to the world on the Iraq war. The Iraqi people need a morale boost, they need to see we are behind them and we will support them and not cut and run. The insurgency needs to see our resolve is strong and we will endure and defeat them. Extremist Islamist terror groups use our perceived weakness against us. They misunderstand our kindness for weakness. Weakness shown to the world brings more recruits to their cause; it causes more civilian deaths and violence.

Please I implore you to not push this agenda. I have watched you on television and you seem to be using this as a steppingstone to further your political career. STOP!!! More is at stake here. Our countries word is on the line, my word to many Iraqi citizens is on the line. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines lives are at stake. We know the risks and we face them daily. Don’t make our mission more difficult.

my nephew is planning on getting a laptop. he just needs something for WiFi, web design, file sharing, school, playing music and movies, nothing fancy

i gave him my recommendations, but I figured I would get your opinions. he wants an Alienware, but that's ridiculous and not necessary. he lives in LA-LA land and i know he's worried about status and what the other kiddies would think, but my wife and I told his parents that that crap isn't necessary, and Alienware is basically an overpriced Dell. he sent me an ad for an Area-51 m5550 Alienware, he doesn't need it. so, what would you recommend in place? he's a junior in HS and will hopefully be going away to college in a few years.

i told him to go for a 1.6GHz with 512MB RAM, Windows Office(unfortunately, but because it's necessary in today's educational world, but hopefully he'll be able to get it off someone without shelling out the dough), a long use battery, a 60GB hard drive and all the basic other stuff. a dual core processor is definitely not necessary. so, what say you? specific model recommendations would help. I haven't bought a laptop in a long time and I don't know what's reliable anymore.

"Frankly, many of these textbooks, unlike ours, were not written by the
authors who were once involved with them," he said.

"Years after some of the more famous textbook authors have died, they're
still coming out," he added. "That is a long-term practice in publishing. I
don't know what to call that, but it's certainly true."

and, crazy story...

still more,

This one is actually true (partially), except they probably mentioned "starting with programs like 'Sesame Street'" to sensationalize. I doubt that congress would vote specifically to eliminate certain programs first, let alone what is arguably PBS's most popular program. And even if ALL funding to "Sesame Street' was cut they make enough money through merchandising, merchandising, merchandising to last forever.

Margaret Trudeau on Bipolar Diagnosis and Life with Bipolar Disorder [28 Aug 2006|06:25pm]
Here is the first in a series of things that I've meant to post over the past half year and never got around. Get ready for old news and old commentary, plus some new stuff, too.

"My doctor has said you have to stay on a mood-stabilizing drug to keep you from getting manic and becoming suicidal. So often what happens is that people feel well -- 'Great, I'm better, I don't need my medication anymore' -- and then they have a big crash and they're right back where they started. The idea of being where I was five years ago terrifies me, and I would do anything to prevent that. And if that means taking medication for the rest of my life that may be a little controlling of the highs and the lows, so be it. But I want to be clear that when I take medication, I'm not a different person, I'm just a person who isn't going to go off the deep end. Maybe I shouldn't say this, but I recently saw that Margot Kidder -- who is bipolar -- was giving a lecture and she was anti-drugs, anti-pharmaceuticals. She believes that you could almost cure yourself from bipolar with vitamins. She's like Tom Cruise. I think vitamins are important but they can't replace proper medication."

Senate Rejects Amendment on Gay Marriage

Wednesday, June 7, 2006
WASHINGTON - The Senate rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage by a wide margin Wednesday, delivering a stinging defeat to President Bush and other Republicans who had hoped the issue would rally GOP voters for the November elections.

The senators' vote was 49-48 to limit debate and bring the amendment to a yes-or-no decision. That was 11 short of the 60 needed, killing the measure in the Senate for this year.

President Bush suggested the ban was proper and its time would still come. He said, "Our nation's founders set a high bar for amending our Constitution and history has shown us that it can take several tries before an amendment builds the two-thirds support it needs in both houses of Congress."

Democrats suggested it was all about conservative politics.

"Why is it when Republicans are all for reducing the federal government's impact on people's lives until it comes to these stinging litmus test issues, whether gay marriage or end of life they suddenly want the federal government to intervene?" asked Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. "It makes no sense other than throwing red meat to a certain constituency."

You ma'am, are an idiot. What the hell do you think representative democracy means? I'm pretty sure that politicians are supposed to do what their constituency wants them to, at least for the most part. What a freaking retard. Personally, I'm against such an amendment. I'm more for the covenant marriage concept, and, hell, as far as I'm concerned that should apply to everyone, not just gays. Covenant marriage is a good idea for several reasons, one is that it would keep heterosexuals from marrying their best same-sex friend in order to get tax breaks and employment benefits. Granted doing such may be a bad idea without a well written prenup, but allowing such unions to happen is unfair. In reality, anyone can get married if they want to, it just won't always be recognized by churches and the government. I say we throw out the term "marriage" as far as the gov't is concerned and relabel it as "civil union". Civil unions would be for both straight and gays, it is a non-religious term, and it would merely indicate eligibility for benefits, tax breaks, etc, everything that a "marriage" currently provides. But that will never happen, it just makes too much sense. Bleh, it's a really tangled issue. I'll just be happy that I'm in a good marriage AND I'm reaping all the governmental/corporational/societal benefits.

Ok, back to the subject at hand. Senator Feinstein is an idiot. "It makes no sense other than [pandering] to a certain constituency." I refer you here.

Gah... she is such an idiot that I can't stop saying it.

Idiots like her are the reason that someone like me, who shares more of my beliefs and theories about policy with the democratic party than the republicans, ends up consistantly voting republican. I usually vote for who I think will do the best job, and make the best decisions, whether or not I would agree with all of those decisions. I wouldn't vote Feinstein to lead a preschool tea party.

We need more Obamas, even if he is the anti-Christ. :-P

I get the feeling that I'm babbling and not making myself as well understood as I could be. But it's late, and her blazing idiocy managed to kill some of my brain cells.

I'm glad I'm starting to invest, buying that island in the middle of the Pacific is going to be expensive. Go away. All of you. Go away.
